About me
I am a trained Pluralistic counsellor which means I hold you at the centre of the process and always work from your point of reference. In both hypnotherapy and counselling we can set goals and explore the difficulties you are experiencing by chatting and using varying strategies in a safe and confidential space. By building a strong rapport and trusting environment, my hope is you can test these methods in the real world and use them to help deal with your emotions in a more positive way.
Building a strong working alliance is key to positive progress. I am a friendly and welcoming person. I qualified as a teacher in 1996 and have extensive experience working with children and adults to support, lead and advise in mainstream and alternative provisions. I have experience working alongside additional needs and believe in the importance of seeing the ‘whole person’ in the process.

FAQs
What is counselling and psychotherapy?
Counselling and psychotherapy are both terms used to describe the process of speaking about things that are difficult with someone that is qualified. Counselling is sometimes shorter term work and psychotherapy is longer term work. I am qualified to deliver both.
What is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is another way of supporting you to make changes. By using techniques to relax your conscious mind, suggestions are made to your subconscious mind to encourage change and positivity. The use of muscle relaxation techniques and personalised scripts enhances the process.
Are you a member of a professional body?
Yes. I am an accredited member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society and also the National Hypnotherapy Society. I work within their ethical framework for professional practice.
Have you got an enhanced DBS?
Yes I have an enhanced DBS for working with children and adults.
How long will I need counselling for?
This is your choice and can be adapted to suit your needs. I recommend weekly sessions for continuity. The number of sessions will depend on what you want to achieve from the therapy. Some people may only need a few and others significantly longer. The average is about 8-12 sessions.
How many hypnotherapy sessions will I need?
Hypnotherapy tends to be shorter term work; normally a few sessions. It will depend on how you relax and your commitment to change. Some issues respond well to just a single session.
Do you have a cancellation policy?
Yes. Please read the link in policies . I require 48 hours notice of a cancellation otherwise the session will be charged in full.
If I came with a young person, can I stay?
Yes of course you can stay during the session. The small waiting area is just outside the therapy room with WC facilities. I strongly discourage accompanying adults remaining in the therapy room. In my experience children are more open and speak independently in a space just for them. After each session, your young person may or may not choose to share what they have been talking about. This is completely natural. Providing gentle support and empathetic listening will help them process their thoughts. Sometimes they may seem happier leaving and other times they may seem upset . Both are ok.
